Just navigating the roads to some of these Overlooks is exhilarating all in itself, but then you arrive at these famous viewpoints and realize why you had to come to St. John as there is nothing like witnessing Mother Earth in all her natural glory!
Many of the roads along the ridgelines offer pull offs at the Overlooks for folks to jump out and snap a few pictures that will surely be treasured forever. So enjoy the Sightseeing all around St. John and soak in the views and take lots of pictures. Often times the thought is, “I can’t believe this is real!”

The Cruz Bay Overlook is definitely the closest to get to and a must stop! As you head out of town on the North Shore Road you will immediate go up the hill. At the top of the hill is the Cruz Bay Overlook on your left and an incredible vantage point. Plenty of room to pull over and capture the hustle and bustle of Cruz Bay with boats traveling in and out of the harbor. You can take in all of Cruz Bay on this view, and not to mention views of the Pillsbury Sound, Steven Cay, Great St. James, Little St. James, and the east end of St. Thomas.
Talk about staggering views! Neptune’s Lookout is home to the Windmill Bar located next to the Susannaberg Windmill Ruins which were erected in the 1780’s. Estate Susannaberg is a former sugar plantation purchased by Mr. Neptune Richards in the 1940’s. His descendants are the current owners of the estate which includes the windmill, the bar, a 9-hole disc golf course, and campsite. It’s the perfect spot to watch the sunset, the moonrise, and mesmerizing expansive views you’ll take home as priceless memories!
Trunk Bay Overlook provides the most awe inspiring view and is the most photographed on St. John offering breathtaking views of Trunk Bay Beach and the Virgin Islands National Park. This view captures the beauty of our tropical paradise and you’ll want to make sure you get lots of photos with your family and friends. The view from this overlook makes it easy to understand why Trunk Bay Beach is voted one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The overlook is easily accessible from Cruz Bay via a short drive along the North Shore Road and about a 1/2 mile up on the hill before you reach Trunk Bay Beach. You can easily pull over at the overlook and take lots of pictures.
With views of the North Shore and the British Virgin Islands, this stunning Overlook is located on the North Shore Road just up the hill after you leave Cinnamon Bay headed east or leaving Maho Bay up the hill headed west. So many travelers out on the water love to spend a night or two in Maho Bay as you usually see lots of beautiful Yachts and Catamarans moored or anchored in the bay. Maho Bay is home to Maho Crossroads where day boat charters flocks to so their Guests may enjoy snorkeling with the sea turtles, as well as go onshore and enjoy Maho Crossroads, a local Grateful Dead inspired area with food, drink, and souvenirs.
This overlook is located on Centerline Road headed toward Coral Bay approximately .7 miles past Colombo’s Smoothies on the right hand side with parking available for a few vehicles. The Coral Bay Overlook will awaken a feeling like you are looking off into Never Never Land. Here you will take in the vastness of the east end of Saint John and the British Virgin Islands. You may want to come very early in the morning and watch the glorious sunrise, or head here for an incredible eye-catching reverse sunset. Daydream about what it’s like to have a sailboat moored in Coral Bay and what it would be like to cruise the Caribbean. Notice the slowness of the view on this side of the island as homes are spread out and the quietness is a treasure. So enjoy this incredible view and take lots of pictures!
This incredible Overlook is located on Centerline Road and one of the only Overlooks with a view of the North Shore and beyond before Coral Bay. The Overlook is very popular with Safaris, as they love to pull over and have their Guests get a little peak of the iconic Cinnamon Bay Cay with the British Virgin Islands looming the distance. This Overlook is located approximately .5 miles past Midway (Adrian) on the left hand side with only a small pull over for one vehicle. Be careful.
This Overlook is located near the East End of Saint John with a perfect view of the British Virgin Islands. You can almost reach out and touch Tortola as you can clearly see life is busy over there. The expansiveness of the views makes you just want to jump on a boat and sail away! Head past Coral Bay and before you get to Haulover Bay, the Overlook will be on your left with enough room for a couple of cars.
