If you are looking for incredible views off the cliffs from the South Shore, you’ve found the right hiking trail.  The Tektite Trail would be considered a moderate hike considering the hills which need traversing.  Approximately .7 miles long, this is definitely an off-the-beaten trail as the grasses and rocks fill the pathway.  This is mainly due to the remote location of the trail.  The trail joins the Calbritte Horn Trail, and definitely worth the extra .35 miles of hiking to witness the stunning views off the cliffs.  Be careful as the trail follows along steep drops.

This notorious trail was named after the late 1960’s St. John research program, Tektite, an underwater habitat built by GE and originally designed to be the model for the orbiting Skylab, and was placed below the surface of Beehive Cove on the southeastern tip of Great Lameshur Bay.

PRECAUTION:  Please hike with someone in these remote areas as usually you will not see anyone else.

There is a little bit of parking “space” near the trail entrance, only for 1 or 2 vehicles.

Q Are there any amenities at the Tektite Trail?

None. Bring whatever you need and we suggest a 4-wheel drive vehicle when navigating the south shore roads.
