GREAT LAMESHUR BEACH Claimed

If you are looking to get away from it all, look no further than Lameshur Bay because this is where the road ends on the South Shore of Saint John heading west.  Great Lameshur Bay is definitely worth the trip and is remotely located along a very bumpy road accessible by 4-wheel drive vehicles.    There is parking along the road in various locations.  Pack a lunch and settle under the Sea Grape trees and watch the world just melt away.   This quiet Beach is very vast and rocky and fun to look for hidden treasures along the shoreline.  Between Great and Little Lameshur Bays is home to the original underwater Tektite Habitat back in 1969.

Great Lameshur Bay offers some of the most memorable snorkeling on Saint John.   Be careful as there is coral located very close to the shoreline.  You can head over to the west side for snorkeling where there are a bunch of large rocks jutting out and shallow water for beginners to explore the underwater wonderland.  If you are more adventurous, head over to the east side of Lameshur Bay to an array of sea life that will not disappoint.  As you head out toward Yawzi Point located between Great and Little Lameshur Bays, the water can get a little rough, but there is even more diverse reef life just waiting for you if you have the experience.  Please never snorkel alone.

This Bay offers several hiking trails.  On the west side of the Bay, you can tour the Sugar Mill Ruins and the Lameshur Bay Trail.  This is the furthest hiking trail on the South Shore.  You can also hike the Lameshur Bay Trail to Europa Bay, The White Cliffs Trail, The Par Force Great House Ruins, Petroglyphs and the Reef Bay Ruins.   This is the end of the Bordeaux Mountain Trail.

Please remember, there is no lifeguard on duty.

• Stand only in sand. Do not stand on or touch coral or rocks
• Beware of fire coral and urchins
• No surfing or skim boarding in designated swim areas
• Body surfing is not advised
• Nudity is prohibited
• Do not snorkel alone
• Always wear reef-safe sunscreen
