CANEEL BEACH Claimed

In April 2024, the Federal Government became the new owner of the Caneel Bay Resort lands and improvements.  On August 1, 2024, Caneel Bay Beach located in the Virgin Islands National Park opened for the public to enjoy everyday!  We wonder how many marriages have been performed and honeymoons celebrated on this iconic beach that was home to the Caneel Bay Resort since 1956.  The Resort was lost to hurricanes Irma & Maria in 2017 and offered guests an exclusive and tranquil escape amidst lush tropical gardens and pristine beaches.  Nestled amidst 170 acres of pristine Caribbean beauty, you can take a step back in time to the golden age of Founder, Laurance Rockefeller, who created Caneel Bay Resort in 1952, striving for an unpretentious and relaxed atmosphere that would be in perfect harmony with its natural surroundings.

Not all parts of Caneel Bay are accessible, and this will continue to change as the property receives improvement.  There are three public parking lots for visitors who wish to visit the beach including accessible parking.  Two trash cans and Port-o-Pottys are located on site before the beach entrance.  Great signage directing visitors to and from the beach are in place.  The historic Durloo Sugar Plantation ruins are visible allowing visitors to experience St. John history.

The Caneel Bay Beach dock will not be open for use to visitors or boaters.  At this time, visitors may not access Caneel Bay Beach from Honeymoon Beach. Access to Honeymoon Beach will still be available by shuttle from the Caneel Bay entrance or by boat.
