The Annaberg historical ruins are the most visited on St. John, USVI with access from the North Shore Road and Centerline Road.  This 1/4 mile hike takes about a 1/2 hour.  The historical ruins include a windmill tower, factory, slave quarters and other structures associated with sugar production.  The Leinster Bay Trail begins at the Annaberg Plantation ruins.

The Annaberg Plantation was one of several St. John’s plantations owned in the 1720’s and 1730’s by Frederick Moth, the first Danish Governor of St. Croix and later, the Governor General of the Danish West Indies.  By the early 19th century, the Annaberg Plantation was one of St. John’s biggest sugar producers, and they also produced molasses and rum for export.  Today, the ruins have become an iconic back drop on St. John with many eager to visit and witness the history that still exists on St. John.
